Protect your business from PPP loan fraud.
Scammers are targeting businesses nationwide that received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans using publicly available data to impersonate financial institutions and steal your data. They may contact you about an “issue” with a fake payment or transaction (ACH, wire transfer, or check) or “warn” you about suspicious account activity or fraud in your Online + Mobile Banking account.
What to look out for:
- Spoofed phone numbers that look legitimate. The incoming number looks legitimate, but any call-back number is not a valid number for the bank.
- Text messages that include suspicious website links or QR codes.
- Inquiries about your banking information or transaction history.
- Requests for your Online + Mobile Banking credentials or one-time authentication codes.
How to protect yourself.
- Only log into your Online + Mobile Banking through the bank’s website or Mobile Banking app. NEVER enter your Online Banking credentials into another site or link or share them with anyone, especially over the phone or by email.
- Don’t share one-time authentication codes. Notify the bank if you receive a code without requesting one. bankESB will NEVER ask for your Online Banking password or one-time authentication code.
- Set up account alerts to notify you of suspicious activity or large transactions on your account.
- Don’t trust Caller ID. Always verify phone numbers independently through our publicly published phone number.
- Report suspicious activity. Contact us immediately if you suspect fraud on your account.
